Girl drowns at Southeast Oklahoma lake

BROKEN BOW, Okla. - An 11-year-old girl has drowned at Broken Bow Lake.

The body of Layla Johnson, 11, was found at about 6:30 a.m. Tuesday in the Carson Creek's Firefly area on the lake, said McCurtain County Sheriff Kevin Clardy. Diver's found the girl's body

No one saw Layla go in the water but her relatives suspected she may have been in the lake, Clardy said.

She was reported missing about 4 p.m. Monday. Family also feared the girl have been kidnapped and park rangers and deputies spend hours searching the area. The search was halted at 10 p.m. Monday and resumed at daybreak Tuesday.

Layla's body is being sent to the medical examiner's office. No foul play is suspected.

The McCurtain County Sheriff's Office assisted the Oklahoma State Parks Division in the investigation.
