Hooks' mayor quit, says city secretary

HOOKS, Texas - Hooks City Mayor Jimmy Cochran apparently resigned Tuesday, but hasn't yet submitted an official letter of resignation, said Hooks City Secretary Andria Whitehurst on Thursday.

Phone calls to Cochran for comment Thursday were unsuccessful.

Whitehurst said Cochran didn't file in February to run for another term at mayor.

Whitehurst said Cochran told her he was "tired of everything" and decided to quit.

Another Hooks City Council member Nick Graves resigned May 21. Whitehurst said there will be a special city council meeting set for 6 p.m., Monday to discuss a replacement for Graves.

Graves has served as mayor since 2016. Whitehurst said Cochran previously served as mayor from 2010 to 2011 before stepping down to work as the City Supervisor. Cochran also served as a city council member, starting in 2008.

Hooks will have municipal elections in November for mayor and several city council posts.
