Run the Rail on Oct. 10

NEW BOSTON, Texas - The West Bowie County Rotary Club announces the 5th annual Run the Rail Half Marathon from De Kalb to New Boston, Texas, on Saturday, Oct. 10.

This event is held along the Northeast Texas Trail for 13.1 miles, according to a news release. The trail consists of 10 miles along a smooth dirt trail that transitions to asphalt for the last three miles through beautiful pines and hardwoods of Northeast Texas.

Each year the West Bowie County Rotary Club hosts this event to raise money for charitable activities that include: providing dictionaries to all third-grade students in West Bowie County; providing Christmas clothing, gifts and food for needy families in the communities; sending six high-school juniors to RYLA leadership camp; supporting local food banks and clothing programs; supporting local Special Olympics activities; providing six $1000 scholarships to high school seniors; and helping other deserving local charities.

Sign up for this race online at http://runsignup.com/runtherail. Costs are: $55 for a single entrant, $45 each for a two-person relay, and $35 each for a four-person relay. High-school students may register at the discounted price of $25 for a single, two or four-person relay.

In-person registrations is available Friday, Oct. 9, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday morning of the race beginning at 6 a.m. at the New Boston, Texas, Pavilion located downtown at 200 S. Ellis St.
