REDWATER, Texas - The high school here held a district-wide art show last week, featuring student artwork from all grade levels.

The event also featured a monologue from eighth grader Shiloh McDonald, who is in the junior high theater department, as well as a presentation of the collaborative acrylic pour that the Art Club is donating to the new high school front office.

Redwater High School art teacher Carrie Slay said it was a great turnout.

"It was a great celebration of the visual arts here at Redwater," Slay said. "I really hope to grow and nurture this tradition and make it into something the students get excited about every year.

"We wanted to show a wide variety of all different projects. While we could not get every single student in the district their very own artwork displayed, we were able to do a collaborative flower wall where each student who has an art class this year is represented with their own flower."

This is Slay's second year at Redwater High, and due to the COVID-19 pandemic, her department was unable to have an art show at the end of last year. She said this was very strange for her because it was the only year in her 12 years of teaching art that she didn't create an art show.

"I felt that it was important for us to come together as art teachers and be able to display artwork from all grade levels so that the students could see all their hard work pay off," Slay said. "Our students have put in the time and the effort to create artwork that pushes their level of skill and creativity, and they deserve for it to be seen by our community. My personal goal is to make this a tradition of Redwater and something for our students to look forward to and be proud of."
