TEXARKANA, Ark. - D. Ulysses Brewer will take the oath of office and begin representing Ward 4 on the city Board of Directors on Tuesday.

During a regular meeting, the Board will also vote by consent to appoint Brewer to six city boards and commissions to replace former Ward 4 Director Travis Odom. Odom resigned in January citing health problems, and the Board appointed Brewer to complete his unexpired term.

The Board will also consider placing tax liens on six properties to recoup the city's cost of demolishing substandard structures on them. The cost of demolition will recorded as delinquent taxes on the properties.

Ranging from $2,970 to $6,600, the claims total $28,160. Each amount includes demolition cost plus a 10% lien processing fee, of which 3% will be retained by Miller County.

Also on the agenda is a spending authorization for software licensing. For more than $45,900, the city would purchase a three-year Microsoft Enterprise License Agreement to be used by all departments.

The Board will also vote by consent whether to spend $25,000 on a new pickup to be used by the city fire marshal.

The agenda includes a citizen communication time during which members of the public may address the Board on any topic for up to five minutes each.

The meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday at City Hall, 216 Walnut St. It was rescheduled from its normal third Monday slot because of Presidents' Day.
