Overnight storms leave area homes in the dark

TEXARKANA - As severe thunderstorms swept through the area late Friday and early Saturday morning, nearly 3,000 residents were left in the dark as high winds snapped utility poles, downed wires and felled trees. SWEPCO employees and contract crews have restored most of the power, according to the company's website. Bowie-Cass Electric Cooperative's website also shows that nearly all of its customers are back up and running. At one point early Saturday morning, nearly 150 Texarkana, Texas, customers were without power, mainly in the Wake Village and Nash areas, according to SWEPCO's power outage map. The map showed 36 were without power in the Red Lick area.

Also in Northeast Texas, Hooks had more than 100 outages, while there were nearly 60 cases of New Boston residents with no power.

Bowie-Cass Electric Cooperative's website showed nearly 1,000 people were without electricity in Bowie County and more than 800 in Cass County, including the New Boston, Atlanta and Queen City areas as the storms hit.

In Southwest Arkansas, 450 customers were without power in the Horatio area. Hope appeared to have more than 50 outages; Fouke with 410; and 221 people near Foreman and Winthrop.
