Temperatures to dip into the 20s in Texarkana area

TEXARKANA - Temperatures for much of the Texarkana area will dip down to below freezing tonight and Monday night.

Tonight will get down to 29 degrees, while Monday night into Tuesday morning shows to be around 27, according to the National Weather Service.

NWS suggests the following for below-freezing temperatures:

- Wear layers of loose-fitting, lightweight, warm clothing.

- Wear a hat. Try to stay dry and out of the wind.

- Cover your mouth to protect your lungs from extreme cold.

- Mittens, snug at the wrist, are better than gloves.

- Let hot and cold water trickle or drip at night from a faucet.

- Open cabinet doors to allow more heat to get to un-insulated pipes under a sink or near an outer wall.

- Make sure heat is left on and set no lower than 55 degrees

- Bring pets inside. If you can't bring pets inside, provide a warm shelter and fresh water and keep salt away from paws.

- Check your battery, fluid levels, tires on your vehicles. Make sure you have jumper cables and to pack a blanket.
