TEXARKANA, Texas - Piney Grove Baptist Church will celebrate its new sanctuary with a dedication service at 3 p.m. on Sunday at the church, 83 Piney Grove Circle in Texarkana, Texas.
The sanctuary was completed in late 2019 and members held their first worship service there on Jan. 5.
Construction of the sanctuary, which is connected to another sanctuary, began in 2012.
After hiring a contractor, work stalled and the job was halted. Church members attempted to work with the contractor to complete the project, but were unsuccessful. After nearly a year of compromise, and no movement of construction, the church hired a new contractor in 2019 and finished the project.
The church was organized in Leary, Texas, in 1869 and was constructed in 1885 before being erected in 1911. The church was later forced to relocate in 1942 when the Lone Star Army Ammunition Plant was established. Services were then held in Nash, Texas, until members purchased land and rebuilt the church at its current location.
Pine Grove has a history of renovation projects to help better serve its members.
In March 1993, the church celebrated after taking on the task of installing new floors and carpet, roof, ceilings, windows and doors, a choir loft and adding heating and air conditioning system. Between 1993 and now, they began building classrooms, paving its parking area, renovating the bathrooms and purchasing new property adjacent to the church.
