TEXARKANA, Texas - Police continue to investigate a shooting that occurred Friday morning in the 2300 block of Spruce Street.

One man suffered nonlife-threatening gunshot wounds during the incident and was treated at Wadley Regional Medical Center, according to the Texarkana, Texas, Police Department.

Officers were dispatched to the residence around 10:52 a.m. and found a 32-year-old man lying in the front yard of a residence, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Arriving officers observed a man running from the scene and carrying what appeared to be a pistol in his hand. The officers pursued him into the wooded area northwest of the residence but quickly lost sight of him.

A perimeter was set up in the area and the search continued, with the assistance of a K9 unit and drone from the Texarkana, Arkansas, Police Department.

"The victim is a 32-year-old male who was shot three times," said Shawn Vaughn, public information officer for the Texarkana, Texas, Police Department. "There were three or four people present in the house at the time, domestically occupied, at the time of the incident.

John H. and Betty Brown, owners of the house in which the incident occurred, were not aware of any trouble with the tenants in their rental unit.

"We live out in Liberty-Eylau and just got a phone call," Betty Brown said. "Current tenants have lived there since September, with no hint of trouble. We hate that this has happened. We are going to talk to them to see what is going on."

Residents watched the officers go about their tasks, unaccustomed to such activity in their neighborhood.

"Everyone on this block goes to Polly Chapel (the church on Spruce Street)," one resident said. "This street sticks together. This kind of thing doesn't happen here."

Detectives do not yet know the circumstances leading up to the shooting, but the investigation continues.
