Howard County has reported virus case; Hempstead off the list

Howard County, Arkansas, has been added to the list of Arkansas counties with a positive case of COVID-19 while Hempstead County has been taken off the map.

The counties with positive cases are updated several times a day by the Arkansas Department of Health.

Hempstead County was added to the map earlier this week and then taken off because the patient's address was discovered to not be in Hempstead county, said Danyelle McNeill, spokeswoman for ADH.

"These types of things may happen as more information comes out about each case," McNeill said.

Howard County was mistakenly added to the list earlier this week, but was then taken off because the positive case was actually in Pike County.

Neighboring Sevier County also has one case, according to officials.

No information was immediately available Friday on what part of Howard County the case is in.

Howard County includes the towns of Nashville and Dierks.

Howard Memorial Hospital in Nashville serves residents in several surrounding counties.

HMH is following The Center for Disease Controls recommendations to prevent and control infections.

The hospital is locked down and patients must enter through the emergency room entrance. A screening station has been set up outside the emergency room.
