Texarkana ISD adds 33 cases in latest coronavirus reports

Texarkana Independent School District's uptick in COVID-19 cases continues, adding 33 cases during the most recent period of school district COVID data released by the Texas Department of State Health Services.

The number of cases was more than double that of any other district in Bowie or Cass counties for this period.

In the period of Oct. 26 to Nov. 1, TISD added 18 student cases and 15 staff cases. Nine of those student cases came from students from early education to third grade.

Only one case was reported with a source of infection of on-campus.

This brings their total percentage of on-campus students who have tested positive since July 27 to about 1.66%.

The previous week's report showed 10 new COVID-19 cases among staff members at TISD between Oct. 19 and Oct. 25. For the period before that, from Oct. 12-18, the district reported 10 staff cases, making the 3-week total 35 cases.

Despite its high number of cases, TISD's positive percentage is not among the highest in Bowie County districts because its on-campus student population is more than double that of any other district.

The highest total on-campus student percentages in Bowie County belong to Red Lick ISD (3.1%), DeKalb ISD (2.1%) and Pleasant Grove ISD (2%).

Simms ISD, with no new cases reported, remains the lowest by far, at around 0.65%.

Red Lick also had a relatively high number of cases this past week, with eight early education to third grade student cases and four staff cases. Both numbers topped their previous totals for students and staff.

Other Bowie districts to report new cases included Hooks ISD, four students; Redwater, one student and one staff member; New Boston, two staff members; PGISD, one student; and Maud, one staff member.

No district in Cass County reported more than five cases in this most recent period.

Atlanta ISD reported four student cases and one staff case, bringing their total student percentage to 1.65%.

Other Cass districts to report new cases include Hughes Springs ISD, two staff members; Linden-Kildare CISD, two students; Queen City, two students; McLeod, one student.

Queen City (3.55%) and McLeod (3.4%) remain the highest districts in both counties in total on-campus student percentage, while Hughes Springs (0.55%) remains the lowest.

All new cases other than one by TISD were reported with a source of infection of either off-campus or unknown.
