TEXARKANA, Texas - When one's family has been in the flooring trade since the middle of the last century, one might assume that kind of expertise is time tested and seeped in rich heritage. And it is. But this family's added a few new tricks to their repertoire and a new location to welcome customers on Texas Boulevard.
"Our family had Adams Tile in downtown Texarkana starting in 1949 and going to the mid-2000s," said Jaime Caraway, Carter Adams Flooring office manager as well as Adams's sister. "Carter never quite quit the business. In the in-between time, he did refinishing of hardwood floors. Eventually, he decided he wanted another retail outlet. So along came this store."
According to Caraway, a retail space offers advantages for the flooring trade.
"The way Carter was doing it before, he had to rely on word of mouth, along with his reputation, to get the message to potential customers," she said. "With a retail space, you have all that and a lot more. You have a store front. You have walk-in customers. We have an expanded product line. And we have a more specialized staff, such as Kris (Nichols), our general manager, who brings years of experience to make this place work."
Of course, new business establishments all have to cope with the spectre of COVID.
"We work through it," said Caraway. "All the work, from measuring forward, our crews wear masks. Also, our sales people on the floor wear masks when needed."
The list of services Carter Adams flooring offers is extensive, from laminate flooring, to traditional hardwood, vinyl, carpet, showers and bathrooms, kitchen back splashes, wood refinishing, custom floors and more.
The new location is at 4321 Texas Blvd. Their discount store is at 2019 Texas Blvd. They also have a location in Magnolia, Arkansas, at 119 E. Main St.
