TEXARKANA, Ark. - With the recent closure of Camp Pioneer earlier this summer, about 65 Boy Scouts of America spent much of Saturday busying themselves making Camp Preston Hunt ready for more scouting events.

In what the scouts termed very aptly as "Beaver Day," they swarmed the 250-acre camp cleaning its 1936 vintage (Works Progress Administration) 13 cabins along with the camp's open air pavilion - in addition to clearing some local hiking trails of brush and tree limbs, along with removing weeds and vines from the camp's amphitheater.

Collectively, the scouts included groups from Troops 8, 13,16 and 19 along with scouts from Pack 1003, said Gus Kisselburg, the camp's
ranger.

As for the camp' more immediate future, a new dining hall is being planned, while the old dining hall will likely be converted into a scout training center.

Kisselburg added that plans also exist to expand Camp Preston's summer programs next year.
