TEXARKANA - Main Street Texarkana donated $2,700 to Mission Texarkana on Monday for the painting of Mission's building as part of an effort to improve downtown Texarkana.

After learning about Mission Texarkana's painting need, Ina McDowell, executive director at Main Street Texarkana, was able to secure funding.

Executive Director Cody Howard said the funding was much appreciated and needed.

We "appreciate Main street Texarkana's support," Howard said. "A considerable part of our goal for the community is to find opportunities to remind individuals of their dignity and worth. The new paint made a difference in how individuals who use our services feel about themselves and their community. Main Street Texarkana funding this project is a perfect example of the positive impact that nonprofits in the community can have when working together."

Howard said this type of expense may have fallen by the wayside due to prioritizing spending on other projects, but this was a good excuse to get the building a fresh new coat.

"Since our agency focuses on providing life-sustaining services to the low-income and homeless community, it isn't easy to set aside funds for projects such as painting our building," he said. "Main Street Texarkana's willingness to partner with us helped Mission Texarkana continue providing services and contributed to the community's beautification."
