Police in Ashdown investigating death of infant

ASHDOWN, Ark. - Police are investigating the death of a 3-month-old infant.

A woman is in custody but no charges have been filed, according to the Ashdown Police Department.

At 5:33 p.m. Monday, police were dispatched to the 600 block of South Fifth St. in reference to an infant that had stopped breathing, according to a news release from the Ashdown Police Department.

Officers found the unresponsive 3-month-old infant boy on the couch and began life-saving measures until EMS arrived. EMS transported the infant to Little River Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Ashdown Police detectives and Little River County Sheriff's Office investigators are investigating the death and took the female suspect into custody. The woman's relationship to the infant was not immediately known.

The case remains open and under investigation.
