TEXARKANA - Oaklawn Rotary Club of Texarkana was recently presented with the Rotary Club of the Year Award for District 5830 by former Rotary District Gov. Jim Finstrom.

The club was recognized for its contributions to the community in 2019/2020, according to a news release. Oaklawn Rotary stepped up its efforts to help individuals, businesses and local non-profits during the pandemic. The club took the dues paid by members each week and used those funds to purchase meals from local restaurants. Those meals were then donated to front lines worker at local health care providers or non-profit agencies.

The club also made donations from their 'rainy day fund' to area non-profits who provided relief to those that lost their jobs because of the pandemic.

"The members of Texarkana Oaklawn Rotary Club wish to thank our immediate past president Jennifer Stuart for all the tireless efforts and hard work she put into our club and helping us to receive the award for Rotary Club of the Year," said Mark Luckett, current club president.

Oaklawn Rotary was founded in 1977. It has supported the community with a range of projects. It recently donated $600 to 11 local non-profit agencies and members contribute their time and energy to make the community a better place for all.

(The club meets each Tuesday at the Knights of Columbus Hall. For more information about Oaklawn Rotary Club, visit Texarkanaoaklawnrotary.org online or email Leigh Davis at [email protected].)
