Pleasant Grove school district Trustees approve resurfacing of Hawk Baseball Field in Texarkana | Cost: $36,000

TEXARKANA, Texas - The Pleasant Grove Independent School District Board of Trustees approved the resurfacing of the infield of Hawk Field in a regular meeting on Tuesday evening.

"The infield at Hawk Field has not been resurfaced ever to our knowledge," Superintendent Chad Pirtle said. "Over the years, lips have built up and the infield playing surface is highly uneven. This project is needed and will create a much better and safer playing surface for our baseball players."

The district has received quotes and approved Fields in Grass, LLC to come in and resurface the infield. The cost of the entire project is $35,860.

In other news, the board heard reports on enrollment, State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) results and future plans.

Pirtle reported during his district updates to the board that student enrollment is up to 2,319, compared to 2,214 last year. He also showed the board visuals indicating that PGISD's STAAR test results were higher on average than the state average.

The district has plans to update its facilities and add a district police department, the details of which should be outlined within the next 30-45 days, Pirtle said.

Financial Director Derick Sibley reported during his financial report that the district is currently at 99% in tax collections and was at $15.5 million in cash position at the end of August.

The board also recognized PG High School head baseball coach Riley Fincher during the meeting, who was recently named the American Baseball Coaches Association high school coach of the year.
