WILFORD PENNY

LINDEN, Texas—Wilford Penny, 77, of Linden died Sunday, March 22, 2009, in Longview, Texas. <br />Mr. Penny was born Nov. 20, 1931, in Linden. He was retired from the Postal Service, a member of Texas Rural Letter Carriers Association, secretary and president of Local 66, secretary to state board of TXRLCA, editor of Texas Carrier, recipient of Retired Carrier of the Year for 2006, former mayor of Linden, an Air Force veteran and a member of Linden Masonic Lodge 192, Linden Chamber of Commerce, American Legion Post 105, Linden Lions Club and Linden United Methodist Church, where he was director of the Men’s Choir. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Ann Burns Penny. <br />Survivors include his wife, Laura Harris Penny of Linden; one son and daughter-in-law, Bryan and Susan Penny of Chandler, Texas; one daughter and son-in-law, Marsha and Bill Thomas of Carrollton, Texas; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Peggy and Jerry Gray of Cookson, Okla., Sue and Glen Gray of Wake Village, Texas, and Nanette Henry of Linden; three grandchildren; and a number of other relatives. <br />Services will be 10 a.m Wednes-day at Linden United Methodist Church with David Darst and Mark McClanahan officiating. Burial will be in Linden Cemetery under direction of Reeder-Davis-Schindler Funeral Home. <br />Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. <br />Memorials may be made to Beacon Hospice at Margaret’s House, 5016 Gilmer Road, Long-view, TX 75604 or Linden United Methodist Church, P.O.
