WALTER SYKES

De QUEEN, Ark.—Walter T. Sykes, 89, of Lockesburg, Ark., died Sunday, Dec. 28, 2014, in a Mena, Ark., rehab center.

Mr. Sykes was born Dec. 10, 1925, in Gainesville, Texas. He was retired from the Arkansas Highway Department, a 32nd degree Mason and a member of Belleville Masonic Lodge and First Baptist Church, Lockesburg and a Navy veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Elverna Friday Sykes of Lockesburg; two sons and daughters-in-law, Randy and Terri Sykes of Spring, Texas, and Leland and Tracy Sykes of Little Rock; one daughter and son-in-law, Valerie and Mike Gathright of Lockesburg; and six grandchildren.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church, Lockesburg. Burial will be in Oddfellows Cemetery under direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.
