Elton Leon McCandless, Sr.

Expect the levels of Millwood to rise as avid fisherman and hunter Elton Leon McCandless, Sr. known for catching large catfish, passed away on July 29th in his hometown of Ashdown, AR at age 92. He was born July 3, 1929, to the late Grover and Pearl McCandless of Wallace, AR. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 65 years Mary Grace Ford McCandless, his parents, his brother Herb McCandless, and sister-in-law Helen. He's left a legacy of two sons and daughter-in-law, Elton (Sheila) of Ashdown and Richard of Dallas, TX. Two grandchildren, Jake (Amanda) McCandless of Rogers, AR and Kylie (Jesse) Hinton of Ashdown. Five great grandchildren Andrea, Addison, Kyanne, Grayson, and Kase. And a number of nieces and nephews. Along with leaving a legacy of family, Elton left a legacy of faith and character. He was a member and deacon of Central Baptist Church in Ashdown for over 60 years. He served our nation in the Korean War with the 2nd Division Infantry "Indian Head" and retired after over 25 years of faithful work in the Ashdown papermill. Funeral Services will be at 2:00 pm, Sunday, August 1, 2021, at Madden Funeral Home in Ashdown with Jack McCandless and Don Embry officiating. Visitation will begin at noon prior to the service. Interment to follow at Ashdown Cemetery.
