Clarence Douglas “Doug” Meadows of Simms, Texas passed away Tuesday, December 6, 2022 at a New Boston care facility. He was 91. Doug was born January 21, 1931 in the Siloam Community of Simms, Texas to Clarence Rupert and Nora Atchley Meadows. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving from 1953 - 1955 during the Korean Conflict. Doug served in the United States National Guard for four years. He retired from teaching after 38 years, having served as the head of the Agricultural Science department for both Redwater ISD and Simms ISD and serving on the State Board of Directors of the Vocational Agricultural Teachers Association of Texas. Doug was active in his community and county serving on the Board of Directors of Bowie County Soil and Water Conservation District for 40 years, as the Chairman for 15 plus years; the Board of Directors of the Bowie-Red River Land Owners Association, as President for 10 plus years; the Simms Volunteer Fire Department Board, as Secretary and President, and the Simms District Family Service Board, as Secretary-Treasurer 20 plus years. He received the Four States Fair and Rodeo Distinguished Service Award. Doug was a charter member and Deacon of Siloam Baptist Church in Simms, Texas where he was very active. His greatest achievement was the legacy of the family he loved and leaves behind to cherish his memory. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Don Meadows, and one daughter, Malissa Meadows. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Patsy Meadows of Simms, Texas; one daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and John Flanery of New Boston, Texas; one son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Tammy Meadows of Simms, Texas; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Judy and Loyd Fields of Simms, Texas and Barbara and Harold Kruse of Simms, Texas; one brother and two sisters-in-law, Larry and Diane Meadows of Simms, Texas and Betty Sue Meadows of Simms, Texas; five grandchildren and their spouses, Ashley and Neal Corbett, Austin and Kelsey Elkins, Anna and Blaine Epperson, Justin Meadows, and Amanda and Robb Bates; eleven grandchildren, Logan and Meagan Corbett, Caylin Corbett, Casey Webb, Jaxon Elkins, Jett Elkins, Camden Epperson, Brynlee Epperson, Myla Epperson, Zadie Kaye Bates, and Jack Bates; and numerous other relatives and friends. Services will be 2:00 P.M. Friday, December 9, 2022 at Siloam Baptist Church in Simms, Texas with Rev. Roy Ford officiating. Interment will follow at Sand Hill Cemetery in Simms, Texas under the direction of Bates Family Funeral Home. Visitation will be held 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M.
