Christen Laverne York

Christen Laverne York of Texarkana, Texas, went to be with her heavenly father on February 12, 2022 after a brief battle with Pneumonia. Born June 3, 1942, in Bowie County, Texas, Christen graduated from Texas High and later continued her education in nursing. She was a lifelong learner and avid reader. As an adult, she lived in Arlington, Longview, and Mount Pleasant, making many friends, before returning to her roots back in Texarkana,Texas. Christen was an independent and strong woman and ahead of her time. She cared for her many beloved dogs throughout her lifetime. She is best known, though, by her son and grandson as a loving and caring mother and grandmother. She is preceded in death by her parents Claude and Myrtle Hicks, her brother CJ and her brother, Earl Hicks, and daughter, Kimberly Wiley, and her husband, Harold Oakmail. Christen is survived by her son Brandon Covington of Blue Mound, Texas and grandsons, Devin Wiley of Ashdown, Arkansas and Trevor Wolfe of Texarkana. She wished for a simple cremation and no funeral services planned.
