Marvin Engels from Texarkana, Texas passed away on Wednesday, January 5th at the age of 90. Marvin lived in Texarkana for the last 40 years until shortly before his death when he moved closer to his daughter. He was diagnosed with prostate and bladder cancer on November 18, 2021 and fought an almost two month battle with this progressive diagnosis. He was born in Annawan, Ill. On November 9th, 1931 to August and Mary Van de Genachte Engels. He was married to JoAnn McElwain Engels, and they lived in Kewanee Ill. Until they moved to Texarkana. They had one daughter, Mary Engels Crouch of Arlington, Texas. In Texarkana, Marvin was employed at Red River Army Depot as the Restaurant and Recycling Manager for over 20 years. He was an avid runner and belonged to the Arkansas Runners Club for may years, and liked to tell others he had run enough miles to run around the world twice. He also qualified and participated in the Senior Olympics, where he placed 2nd and 3rd in several races. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Texarkana where a Mass will be held in his honor. He will be buried in a private graveside ceremony in Fort Worth where his wife is laid to rest.
