Richard Oliver Rogers was born on March 17, 1946, in Waco, Texas, to Oliver King Rogers and Jewell (Judy) Dillard Rogers. He passed from this life on January 16, 2022. Rick was born into an Air Force family, living in Germany and North Africa, and on many military bases in the United States. Upon retirement from the Air Force in 1963, the Rogers family moved to Texarkana. Rick attended Texas High School, where he participated in many sports, most notably the school’s golf team. After graduation, he attended Baylor University where he played on the Bear’s golf team as a scholarship athlete. He attended Baylor Law School, receiving his law degree in 1972. He then practiced law in Texarkana, as a prosecuting attorney and in private practice, while also serving his country in the National Guard. After many years of practicing law, he decided to pursue his real passion in life–golf–first as head golf professional at Northridge Country Club and then as golf coach at Texarkana College and Pleasant Grove High School. Rick is survived by his wife, Linda, of Texarkana; his son, Richard Brooks Rogers and wife Jessica of Little Rock; step-son Steven Leonard of Texarkana; step-daughter Stacy Leonard Carter and husband David of Texarkana; six grandchildren; two brothers, Dex Rogers and wife Annick of Panama City, Florida, and Bill Rogers and wife Beth of San Antonio, Texas; and by his first wife and enduring friend Wally Rogers of Atlanta, Georgia. The family wishes to acknowledge the Alzheimer’s Alliance, whose loving care for many months made it possible for Rick to remain at home, and to Hospice of Texarkana for their kind and loving support in the last weeks of his life. We request that, rather than flowers, those wishing to remember him contribute to one of these services. Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, January 29, 2022 at Texarkana Funeral Home, Texas Blvd.
