CHARLES ALLEN STEGER

Charles Allen Steger, 89 of Atlanta, TX left this earthly plane on January 16, 2023, at a local adult care facility surrounded by loved ones. Charles was born on January 23, 1933, to Allen Merritt (A.M.) and Grace Melton Steger in Cass County. He attended school in the Liberty Grove community and graduated from Atlanta High School and Tyler Business School. He was retired from Lone Star Steel and the City of Longview, TX. He was a resident of Longview, Texas for many years before moving back to Atlanta after retirement. Charles was a member of Laws Chapel Methodist Church. An amateur historian, Charles was author of many books, articles, and journals on the history of Cass County and the surrounding Ark-La-Tex. He was considered the foremost expert of the history of the area. Charles presented many delightful and informative programs to Historical and Genealogical organizations. He was a valuable resource to those that requested his expertise. He was a Charter member of the Cass County Genealogical Society and member of many other Genealogy and Historical Commissions in the area. Charles was also an avid circus fan after seeing his first circus as a small boy. His dream when he grew up was to run away and join the circus! Instead, he was always the first to attend any time a circus came to town. He was preceded in death by his parents, Allen Merritt (A.M.) and Grace Melton Steger. Survivors are brothers, Robert (Bob) Steger and wife Louise Greene Steger of Atlanta, Don Steger of Fort Worth, TX, nieces Toni Steger of Plano, TX and Adonna (Donnie) Skinner of Maumelle, AR, great-niece Kaylee Skinner of Maumelle, AR and a host of other relatives and friends. A Memorial service will be held at Laws Chapel Methodist Church on Saturday, January 28, 2023, at 1pm. Cremation arrangements under the direction of Hanner Funeral Service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Laws Chapel Cemetery Association, Cass County Genealogical Society, Endangered Ark Foundation, or the charity of your choice.
